About the Insurer
Debeka Health Insurance (Koblenz) is Germany’s largest private health insurer and has been a mutual insurance company since 1905. Since December 2023, it has been offering a health budget plan for employer-sponsored health insurance with coverage levels ranging from €300 to €1,500 —with no medical exam or waiting period.
The budget covers, among other things, outpatient medical treatment—including naturopathic treatments, acupuncture, homeopathy, and osteopathy (provided by physicians with additional certification or alternative practitioners, in accordance with the GebüH)— surgical vision correction, visual aids (up to 50% of the budget), hearing aids (up to 50% of the budget), medical devices and aids, travel and transportation, medications and bandages, targeted preventive medical examinations, and professional dental cleanings. If coverage begins during the year, the full annual budget is available.
For the first time, coverage is available at no additional cost during periods of unpaid leave (sick leave, parental leave, sabbatical); family members can be included in the coverage. A 24-hour health hotline (phone, chat, email, video) complements the coverage. In addition, coverage modules for outpatient care, dental care, preventive care, international travel, and inpatient care can be combined (available for groups of 5 or more people with at least two modules).
