Hallesche's Supplementary Health Insurance: Plans, Benefits, and Costs
Hallesche has organized its employer-sponsored health insurance offerings into five plan families—FEELfree, FEELfree_friends, FEELfree_plus, FEELfree:up, and FEELfree:up_plus—which together comprise 66 plan options, including combinable modules. What they all have in common is the budget-based approach: Employers select a budget level between 300 and 1,500 euros per year per person, from which insured employees can access outpatient and dental services. Through add-ons such as dental prosthetics, dental treatment, alternative practitioners, vision aids, daily hospital allowance, or Preventive Care Plus, the basic package can be expanded to include inpatient coverage, preventive care, or supplemental long-term care coverage, allowing companies to tailor the scope of coverage to their budget and target audience.
Within the selected budget, outpatient expenses are reimbursed at 100 percent until the annual budget limit is reached. Sublimits apply to certain types of services, such as vision aids, which can only be billed up to a limited portion of the total budget. Where other payers, such as statutory health insurance, are required to provide advance payment—for example, for certain outpatient surgeries at a hospital—their benefits must first be utilized in full and documented before the supplementary health insurance (bKV) steps in to provide additional coverage. Alternative practitioners, osteopaths, and chiropractors are reimbursed up to the maximum amounts specified in the fee schedule for alternative practitioners; for osteopathy and chiropractic, reimbursement may exceed these amounts.
For inpatient care, there are coverage options available that include elective services such as accommodation in a single or double room, private medical treatment by the chief physician, and coverage for one accompanying person for children. In the dental area, depending on the selected coverage option, dental treatment and dental prosthetics can be covered, while professional teeth cleaning and teeth whitening are already included in the benefits catalog. In addition, preventive care modules such as “Preventive Care Plus,” “Preventive Care Premium,” “Dental Prophylaxis,” or “Exhaustion Prevention” can be added. Digital services such as video consultations, a specialist appointment service, a medical hotline, and a second medical opinion are available free of charge to insured individuals and—depending on the module—to family members as well.
Employers with 10 or more employees can set up Hallesche’s supplementary health insurance (bKV). No advance payment from the statutory health insurance is required for basic benefits, which simplifies day-to-day administration. The range of five plan options, each with five budget tiers and additional modules, allows the plan to be tailored precisely to the company’s workforce size and budget.
Family members can be included in the coverage, including through the FEELfree_friends plan, which is specifically designed for this purpose. If an employee leaves the company, private continuation of coverage is only possible through Hallesche’s modular plans, not through the budget plan itself.
With its wide range of plan options and flexibly combinable modules, this offering is suitable for both smaller businesses with 10 or more employees and larger companies that wish to establish a differentiated supplemental health insurance program tailored to specific target groups. Externally, the plan has been rated, among others, by Assekurata with an A+, by Morgen & Morgen with the highest rating of “Excellent” (5/5), by Ascore as “Outstanding,” and by the IVFP as “Excellent.”

Costs
Premiums for Hallesche’s supplementary health insurance (bKV) are primarily based on the selected budget tier: The higher the agreed-upon annual budget—ranging from 300 to 1,500 euros per person—the more extensive the reimbursable benefits and the higher the premium. Within the budget, outpatient expenses and—depending on the modules selected—dental expenses are reimbursed at 100 percent up to the full budget amount; reimbursement for the current calendar year ends only once this limit is reached.
Any unused budget expires at the end of the year and is not carried over to the following year. If, however, the budget is fully utilized, the individual’s base budget automatically increases by 50 euros each calendar year, up to a maximum additional amount of 200 euros. If the budget increased in this manner is not fully utilized in a given year, it reverts to the original base budget. In the event of a work-related accident requiring hospitalization, the base budget doubles for the current year and the following year.
Additional coverage options, such as dental prosthetics, daily hospital allowance, or optional inpatient services, are treated as separate premium components and are calculated independently of the base premium, as they have their own benefit limits and reimbursement rules.

FAQ
Do I need a doctor's prescription for every service?
No. Only certain services require a prescription—for example, medications, bandages, medical devices, and assistive devices. You can receive preventive checkups and vaccinations without a prescription.
Can I still use these services when I'm abroad?
Yes. Insurance coverage is provided worldwide.
Can I carry over the budget to next year if I don't use it?
Any unused budget expires at the end of the year. In return, your annual budget automatically increases by €50 per year—up to an additional €200.
Will I still be insured if I take parental leave?
Yes. Through the bKV Airbag, insurance coverage continues during parental leave without requiring premium payments—for up to 36 months.
Can I continue my insurance coverage privately if I leave the company?
Private continuation is only available with Hallesche's modular plans, not with the budget plan itself. It's best to contact us before you leave the plan—we'll show you your options.
How long do I have to submit an invoice?
There is no deadline. Invoices should be submitted as soon as possible. The date of purchase or treatment determines which annual budget will be used for reimbursement.
Are dietary supplements or vitamins reimbursed?
No. Medications and bandages are reimbursed only if they have been prescribed by a doctor. Dietary supplements and vitamin preparations are excluded.
What counts as an assistive device—do fitness trackers, for example, qualify?
Medical devices are those prescribed by a doctor (e.g., bandages, orthopedic insoles). Lifestyle devices such as fitness trackers are not included.
Can I collect several invoices and submit them together?
Yes. The budget applies per calendar year, regardless of how often or when you submit your requests.
Will I get my own insurance number or card?
You will receive an insurance card from Faktor Mensch that shows your insurance number.
Can my employer see the claims I submit?
No. The employer does not see any personal usage data.
Are services purchased online also reimbursed?
Yes, provided that the services are eligible for reimbursement and a valid invoice is available.
Will the budget be prorated if I enroll during the school year?
No. If you join during the year, you'll receive the full annual budget.
What happens if a doctor charges more than the GOÄ/GOZ rates?
Costs are reimbursed up to the maximum rates set by the GOÄ/GOZ. Amounts exceeding these limits are generally not reimbursed—if in doubt, ask about the rates before receiving treatment.
How does the bKV work in conjunction with private supplemental insurance?
You must disclose any advance payments made by other payers when submitting your claim; the total reimbursement will never exceed the invoice amount (prohibition against unjust enrichment).
What happens to my insurance if I'm unable to work for an extended period?
In the event of a prolonged inability to work, the bKV Airbag kicks in: Insurance coverage continues without requiring premium payments—for up to 36 months.
Can my family members use the bKV?
Yes. Spouses and domestic partners (including those in common-law relationships), as well as children up to age 27 (who are pursuing their first degree), can be added to your coverage at your own expense—without a medical exam. You can enroll them within 3 months of your enrollment; parents and grandparents are excluded.
When can I start submitting claims?
You can submit claims starting on the effective date of your coverage; the date of treatment or the date of receipt must be after the effective date of your coverage.
