Provinzial's bKV: Rates, Benefits, and Costs

Provinzial divides its range of employer-sponsored health insurance plans into budget plans and compact plans. A total of five plan families with twelve plan variants—including modular combinations—are available. With the BudgetPro budget plan, employers can choose between budget levels of 400, 800, and 1,200 euros per year, divided across three plan variants—this allows the scope of benefits to be tailored to the available budget per employee. In addition, BudgetVorsorge offers a separate pension-focused budget plan with a fixed budget level of 400 euros per year. Those who prefer fixed benefit packages over a budget model will find suitable alternatives in the six variants of the compact plans (bKV Start, Basis, Comfort, Premium, ComfortPro, and bKV Plus), as well as in VorsorgePro and the hospital plan KlinikPro.

The health budget covers 100 percent of the cost of numerous outpatient services, including statutory copayments, such as medications and bandages; therapeutic treatments like physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and podiatry; and medical aids, including hearing aids and their repair or maintenance. Vision aids and nursing or wellness aids, however, are excluded or covered only up to a sublimit within the budget. Services provided by alternative practitioners in accordance with the GebüH are also fully covered by the budget, including osteopathy. For preventive medical checkups, naturopathic treatments, and protective and travel vaccinations, the scope of coverage depends on the selected plan, as does any potential obligation for the statutory health insurance (GKV) to provide advance payment, which must be taken into account depending on the plan.

For inpatient care, Provinzial pays a daily hospital allowance of 10 euros per day of inpatient treatment, with the day of admission and the day of discharge each counted in full; however, this daily allowance is deducted from the health budget. Optional services in the hospital are covered differently depending on the plan. Dental coverage includes professional teeth cleaning. The coverage is supplemented by digital health services, which are included in all plans: a video consultation via Medgate Deutschland, a digital dermatology service from Dermanostic, and a service for scheduling appointments with medical specialists.

From an organizational standpoint, Provinzial requires that a company employ at least five employees—this minimum size applies uniformly to all collective bargaining agreements, from budget-based agreements to compact agreements.

Spouses, domestic partners, and children up to age 27 can be covered under the plan for a separate premium that is tiered by age group. If the application is submitted within six months, the medical examination for family members is waived, depending on the rate plan. If an employee leaves the company, the insurance can be continued as individual coverage within two months without a new medical examination. Upon retirement, it is also possible to continue coverage under the existing supplementary health insurance terms, provided that the former employer’s contribution is maintained.

Thanks to its combination of budget-based and compact plans, Provinzial’s offerings are suitable both for smaller businesses with five or more employees that want to start with lower budget tiers, and for companies that want to offer a more comprehensive package of benefits with higher budget tiers or compact plans.

Costs

Premiums for Provinzial’s supplementary health insurance (bKV) are based on the selected plan and, for budget plans, on the selected budget tier. The BudgetPro plan offers annual budget levels of 400, 800, and 1,200 euros; the higher the budget level, the more benefits can be claimed under that level in the respective calendar year. The BudgetVorsorge preventive care plan operates with a fixed annual budget level of 400 euros.

Various services are counted toward the budget, such as medications, bandages, medical treatments, and medical aids—each covered at 100 percent, including statutory copayments—as well as services provided by alternative practitioners. The daily hospital allowance of 10 euros per day is also counted toward the annual budget, as are vision aids, for which a separate sublimit applies within the budget.

The health care budget applies to a single calendar year; there is no carryover provision. Unused funds therefore expire at the end of the year and cannot be carried over to the following year.

FAQ

How many employees must a company have to be eligible for Provinzial's supplementary health insurance?

All of Provinzial’s plan options—both the Budget plans and the Compact plans—are available to companies with five or more employees. This minimum size requirement applies uniformly to BudgetPro, BudgetVorsorge, KlinikPro, VorsorgePro, and the Compact plans.

What budget tiers are available with the BudgetPro plan?

Spouses, domestic partners, and children up to age 27 may be covered under the policy for a separate premium that is tiered by age group. If the application is submitted within six months, the medical exam may be waived, depending on the rate plan.
